McKee to Run for Kansas House Seat Manhattan resident Dee McKee announced she is running for election for the Kansas House of Representatives 66th District. A lifelong Kansan, McKee is a recognized leader with a personal interest in education and in being an advocate for children's interests. Her most recent experience includes Director of Special Education for the Manhattan School District. Dr. McKee also envisioned and developed the proposal for the sale of 801 Poyntz (currently Arthur-Green offices) which gave flexibility to the USD 383 budget. "With a school administrator, county commissioner, and farming background, I have a unique understanding of how public policy affects the operations of both local and state government, business and of course, taxpayers", McKee said. "Economic growth and efficient budgets are essential. Our state can do better when it comes to serving the needs of our citizens. My experience of working with leadership from both parties will enable me to champion Manhattan and Riley County citizen's needs. I'm anxious to take that work to the next level" Recently, McKee serviced as K-12 principal at Heartspring in Wichita. Heartspring serves children with autism and developmental needs. McKee also served as Ford County Commissioner and was appointed to the At Risk Subcommittee of the 2010 Education Task Force. She is currently appointed to the Kansas Autism Task Force. She and her husband C. E. Mckee III spent 34 years managing and operating the family farm in Ford County. Speaker of the Kansas House of Representatives Melvin Neufeld (R-Ingalls) has known McKee for more than 30 years and noted the importance of her background and potential in the Legislature. "Dee would be an excellent addition to the House of Representatives," said Speaker Neufeld. "She's a principled leader with a wealth of experience in the world of education and in her work with the Kansas Farm Bureau. Her experience and dedication will be a valuable asset for the Kansas House, Riley County, and the entire state. We need her leadership and abilities." |
